A well produced and informative documentary. Thank you. The mandatory 'background music' was turned right down (well done), but the AI narration is a bit naff.

The duchess in carriage one afternoon witnessed sailing ships loading people and couldn't understand why they were leaving. I was told by my grandma that a man had come to NZ to ask for a contribution to the monument that stands at Dunrobin castle. He spoke at the Nova Scotia descendants meeting. She told me one of my great uncles spat in his eye and said "not a penny will be given".

Yes, i believe the crofters were tarving, and many opted to emigrate.

It is a pity the narrator hadn’t researched his pronunciation of the local Straths, for a local resident it spoils a good documentary.

The pronounciation is Strath-neigh-vahr. Great work though.

Interesting video.

The prosecution of Patrick Seller was hampered in part by many of the witnesses for the prosecution did not speak English as a first language. So even if had been a “fair” jury they may have struggled to gain a conviction.

On a family note my mother climbed Ben Bhraggie to the Dukes statue. The next day she was visiting an old lady who was very prim and proper. On hearing that my mum had climbed Ben Bhraggie the old lady said “Did you Spit on him”

I'm dragging something out of my memory hole.

Many years ago I lived in Newport, Shropshire. Close nearby was a monument known as the Sutherland Monument that was dedicated to one of the Sutherland Clan. It was paid for by the workers on the estate (extorted?).

Is this the same family as is the subject of the video?
