  If you ask me, the PS2 was the best system ever made. It was probably the peak of what video gaming was about. So many amazing and groundbreaking games, so many great franchises, so many weird and experimental games that would never get made in any other era. You can look at the library and see hundreds of obscure games you&apos;ve never heard of and they&apos;re all good in their own right. Games were made just because the developers wanted to make them, and right before the dawn of DLC and MTX took over. We&apos;ll never get it this good again.

  I&apos;ve struggled with falling asleep easily my whole life, and one tactic I occasionally break out to help me with that is imagining the PS2 menu screen. No, seriously. The floating, glowing orbs swirling through the blank, black void, and the gentle sounds of crashing waves is oddly hypnotic and lulls me to sleep, like counting sheep. It helps that it&apos;s a reminder of simpler, comforting times from my childhood

  The PS2’s library is absolutely bonkers, even today. 2001 alone had Grand Theft Auto III, Final Fantasy X, Devil May Cry, Ico, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Gran Turismo 3, Jak and Daxter, and Silent Hill 2, and those are just the highlights!

  Some of the best times in PS2 gaming is when the PS3/360 came out because GameStop was packed FULL of inexpensive PS2 games, you could go in there and get like 8 absolute bangers for 30 bucks. I miss those days so much.

  I got my PS2 Christmas morning of 2001. I was in 1st grade. I got it with Tekken Tag Tournament. We didn&apos;t have a lot of money but my parents managed to scrounge up enough to get me one because I had been doing well in school. I still remember sitting legs crossed on the floor looking up at the the screen and seeing that game for the first time and being in disbelief at how amazing it looked. I had a PS1 that was gifted to us from my aunt so I seeing that jump in graphics in real time as a kid was mind-blowing. Fast forward to about 6 years ago, I had sold my PS2 and games some time back because I just didn&apos;t play it anymore. I had collected so many games, probably at least 300 for it and just kind of...threw all that history away and I really was starting to regret it. My best friend had his old PS2 that he was trying to get rid of because he just doesn&apos;t play many games in general anymore. He sold it to me with a controller and memory card for $50 bucks. Went to a retro game store where I live and found a copy of Tekken Tag Tournament. When I got home I realized the controller cord wasn&apos;t long enough to reach the couch so I had to sit on the floor. I turned on the system and the second the piano for the opening movie started, I had tears in my eyes. There I was, almost 2 decades from where I was the first time I booted up the PS2 legs crossed, looking up at the TV, playing the first game I ever played for it all over again. That is the only time i&apos;ve ever rrally captured my childhood again for a brief moment. I know this was a book but this system means a lot to me I won&apos;t be making the mistake of selling it again if I can help it.

  I don’t want to sound like an old man, but when I look at my nephews, video games for them are basically just Fortnite, FIFA, Roblox, and Minecraft. On GTA Online, you won’t even find 20% of players under 16 who actually play single-player games with emotion and a real story behind them. It’s honestly kind of sad.<br><br>The truth is, the peak of video games was during the PS2, Xbox, and GameCube generation. Since then, we moved into the era of DLCs, then microtransactions, and now we’ve reached a point where some games feel more like casinos than actual games.
