Another great episode. I’ll definitely be pondering on this. You make some really good points.

What about the environmental impact of Generative AI? What about the fact that these technologies were trained on all of the creative work of humans without their permission or compensation? I love the idea of having an “assistant” to take some of the admin load and I sometimes find the Google search AI to be helpful, but always with a skeptical perspective since they are wrong so often. But I resent my work being gobbled up and knowing that every new piece I create will get gobbled up, too. I am also very concerned by how quickly cities in the US are running out of water and how electric bills go up and up because we are subsidizing their extreme power usage. I panicked at first as an artist when LLMs emerged but I do agree now that human creativity will become more and more valuable. Plus I can’t not create, even if just for myself.

Interesting PoV, but I think you are not looking ahead far enough. Sure, robots are not that good at performing certain tasks. Yet. The field of robotics is evolving rapidly, and the stuff they can do right now would have been considered as only a possible far future mere years ago. And LLMs are only the beginning. AIs are currently being built and optimized to train other and better AIs and to eventually eliminate the need for humans to intervene. Which also means that this is going faster and faster and faster.

Assuming that AI eventually doesn't decide to turn against us, it will be of huge benefit to humankind. However, before we get there, it's going to take us through some huge economical changes, including a massacre on the job market.
