■ The Breath of Glaciers and the Mysterious Sound of Calving Glaciers, rivers of ice. As their name suggests, glaciers are living, flowing entities, emitting sounds. Glaciers are filled with diverse sounds: crevasses, narrow, deep cracks formed by cracking ice; calving, the rupture of glaciers by melting; and ponds and rivers formed by rising temperatures. Finnish sound director Eero, who has been collecting glacial sounds for over a decade, described the glacial sounds he heard as reminiscent of a heartbeat. This is because the sounds produced by glaciers as they move or melt have a regular, repetitive rhythm. By listening to the sounds of glaciers, we can sense that glaciers are living, breathing alongside us. Professor Holland, who witnessed the calving of a massive iceberg five years ago, is currently studying the movement of the Helheim Glacier in Greenland. As temperatures rise, the rate of glacial melting is accelerating. According to foreign media reports, research has shown that Greenland's glaciers, an area approximately 36 times the size of New York City, have melted over the past 30 years. The production team, together with leading domestic and international experts, explores the vitality of glaciers through their movements and sounds. ■ Killer whales and humpback whales battle for herring, and an Arctic fox swims for the first time on television The Arctic aurora casts a fantastic light over glaciers, and the glaciers of Torres del Paine, Chile, are a vibrant emerald blue. Glaciers harbor a vibrant ecosystem as diverse and dynamic as their colors. Countless creatures thrive on them, feeding, loving, and competing for life. From skua, a natural enemy of penguins, to the fierce battle between killer whales and humpback whales for herring, to herds of musk oxen huddled together to protect their young, the production team also captured an Arctic fox swimming for the first time on television. Amidst this fierce competition, organic matter from icebergs and drift ice becomes food for marine life. This food chain, feeding and being eaten, enriches the glacier ecosystem. Glaciers are a place where everyone struggles to survive. The production team delves into how a diverse ecosystem formed within a cold, dark glacier. ■ The Power of Glaciers: The Formation of Scapland in 3D Special Footage 16,000 years ago, one-third of the Earth was covered in ice. A glacier flowing from Canada blocked the flow of a river in Montana, USA, and covered it with ice. The blocked river formed a massive lake, which became Lake Missoula. Over time, water levels rose, and the pressure on the dam increased, creating cracks here and there. At one point, a massive amount of water burst forth, eroding the earth 200 meters deep and dislodging billions of tons of solid rock in just a few hours. This massive erosion left behind a massive canyon, creating the unique erosion landscape we know today as "Scapland."
