  One of the things I like the most about Madrid is the amount of parks they have. It makes such a difference that even in a big city you can very quickly just go to some green and sit down on the many benches. Not many big cities in other countries have something like that.

  This video explains too the immense effort Spain put in its American territories. Madrid hadn&apos;t its orthogonal &quot;ensanche&quot; untill XIXth century. But in America hundreds of new cities were built entirely from scratch following a common planification that made them more livable, safer and even healthier than the ones in Spain, from the beginning of XVIth century. <br>And often their cathedrals, palaces, &quot;zócalos&quot; universities and hospitals were far more sumptuous than the ones that were being built in Spain. <br>Amazing video, thank you!

  I stayed in Madrid for one week in 2019. &nbsp;It was a wonderful experience. &nbsp;Spaniards are so well mannered, well dressed and well spoken as a whole. &nbsp;They are handsome to look at. The city was clean and very easy to walk through. &nbsp;I could live there.

  When I was young Barcelona, followed by Sevilla then Madrid were my favorites. But now the order is reversed; I prefer the elegant regal feeling of Madrid over the chaos of Barcelona and suffocating heat of Sevilla…… But my favorite city has always been San Sebastián. ❤- from Los Angeles California

  Fun fact, the square-shaped artificial lake in the Retiro Park was used in the 17th and 18th centuries as a venue for naumachias, that is, the recreation of naval battles for entertainment. Near the park there was also a bullring built in 1749 that resembled a roman amphitheatre with a capacity for 12.000 seated spectators, no stadiums like that existed anywhere in Europe back then. The bullring no longer exists because it was demolished in 1874.
