  While it may be flattering to see such videos, please don&apos;t advertise it too much because it won&apos;t remain a secret anymore. I do think it&apos;s lovely to have tourism, especially the high added value type (and certainly not the mass thing that just ruins it for everyone, locals and visitors alike), but we really don&apos;t want to be overrun. Ljubljana is already pretty critical.

  Slovenia really does feel like a hidden treasure 💚<br>We passed through it on a big family road trip — two teens, one corgi, and a car packed to the roof 😄 — and were stunned by how peaceful and alive it felt at the same time.<br>Lake Bled was magical, but it was the quiet valleys and foggy mornings that stayed with us the most.<br>You captured both the beauty and the feeling of it so well.<br>Curious: what spot surprised you the most — the one you didn’t expect to fall for?

  I spent 3 years in Slovenia and Loved it. I also own an apartment in Piran. Since I am from Santa Barbara, California, Piran was an easy choice. Why did I leave? My wife is Austrian and we settled just outside of Innsbruck. However we do travel to Piran regularly. My wife especially likes Ljubljana.

  One interesting fact about this year 2025 is that the highest number of construction sites were on the roads. So much so that the state extended the validity of the &quot;vignette&quot; (a permit to use expressways) by 4 months as an apology for the traffic problems.

  Your geographical description of Slovenia is a bit off. I know that even many slovenes like me think that we´re on the Balkan peninsula, but only a small piece of land at the coast can technically be considered part of the Balkans. Most of the country is part of the pre-alpine hills stretching all the way east to the pannonic lowlands. The rest is just part of the Alps, which of course are not part of the Balkan peninsula. The balkans isn´t just a term in physical geography, but also a term that is often used to describe the cultural geography of souteast Europe. In that sense, you could see Slovenia as part of the Balkans and some slovenes do see it that way. But, here is the catch. For most of our history we have been part of the austrian crown duchies of Carinthia, Carniola and Styria. And unlike the croats and the serbs we are descendets of western slavic tribes that setteled down in the 6th century in what is now part of the austrian state of Carinthia and our language is therefore closley related to the slovakian language. Considering all the factors, I would conclude that Slovenia is part of central Europe. Not just geographcally, but also culturally.

  I enjoy watching your videos 👏. From my understanding. Slovenia would not be a tax friendly country for us retired Americans. Otherwise, I agree with you that Slovenia is the Best-Kept Gem. Everything about Slovenia says come over 😀. Much love to you guys from beautiful Southern California.
