I think something a lot of subnautica modders think is bigger & more teeth = scarier, when in reality something too big with too many teeth just looks silly (like the bloop) it stops being horror of man vs nature, and just becomes a rejected scp

The Bloop feels like it’s trying too hard to be scary

Size matters, but it has to fit its area or it just feels unnatural and alot less scary to me. The gargantuan works because its in the void, famous for big creatures, whereas the bloop being in the plateaus just makes it look so silly and out of place. I wanna see more small but unique and difficult creatures much more

For the Silence I have some advice; Don't do what basically every YouTuber did when encountering and turn on the Cyclops Sonar to try and see it, you are basically turning on a homing beacon telling the Silence where its lunch is.
If you're in the Cyclops, Rig for Silent running, cut the engines, and have Creature Decoys ready to fire. The Silence will track the Last sound it heard, so Firing a Decoy will distract it long enough for you to escape (set engine speed to Minimal).
As for the Garg, particularly the Void Garg, there's a way to completely Pacify it. Within a new Cache in the lost river (added by the Garg's Mod) there is a massive egg. Hatching it and bringing the baby to the Void will summon the Void Garg to you, but in a completely passive state, it will simply stare at the baby Garg (the implication given the abilities it's shown off are that it's communicating Telepathically with the baby), so it's completely safe to go up and Scan the Adult It'll be completely fine with you being there.

My issue with the Bloop is that it breaks gameplay flow, the Grassy platoe is supposed to be a fiarly safe introduction to deeper biomes, slaping a giant one shotting fish in there that can destroy the seamoth, when thats usually the frist vehicle a player makes, brakes gameply flow heavily

I think The Silence is king of this list. The fact that it doesn't rely on its size or loud, echoey roars to scare you is already terrifying enough. What really scares me thought is the horror of this creature's existence. It looks like its starving to death, so it immediately charges anything near it. It bites the seamoth and prawn suit first because it is desperate, but then spits them out. Its lost it's main food sources so now it desperately attacks and devours anything that enters its territory. Its completely blind so it would probably get ripped apart by other leviathans if the silencing effect doesn't work.

Its just a starving, desperate creature that will likely perish. If you didn't ever go to the Silent Waters, it would die a slow, quiet death.

Silence and Gargantuan are such sophisticated examples of the opposite ends of the scale. Silence is relatively small compared to other levis, but the sheer pressure of possibility of danger being ANYWHERE without you being aware of it is enough to evoke the primal fear of being stalked that is present in pretty much any living being. And then there is the deafening silence it brings. Baring the horror of you suddenly losing your main spacial awareness tool, there is an added factor of it isolating you. Sure, you're already alone underwater on an alien planet, but there is something especially damning in realization that your death will be drowned in this oppressive silence, not even your last scream heard.
Silence is beyond just scary - it is straight up MORTIFYING. It is the king of its biome and you are not even a main course of its dinner - just an appetizer.
And then there is Garg.
At some point the difference in size becomes so much it transcends fear. For a Garg you're not even worthy of bothering to turn its head - your scale is so small compared to his titanic form you're not even a chicken nugget to it - just barely a single miserable breadcrumb. At this point fear trades place with the awe of sheer scale when you realize HOW big the Garg actually is, that it probably is an animal you could actually see all the way from the orbit of the planet.
Also the team did godly work on modeling and animating him, giving him this graceful dance of lights in the open waters of the Void. It's not fear you'll feel seeing him, only an awe of the spectacle.

I personally dislike the bloop because its incredibly ugly doesnt fit subnauticas style and animations are minimal. great video

The problem with some modded leviathans here is that they’re there purely to scare the players and have no real thought put into them. The Bloop’s “Suction Vortex” makes it seem like a filter feeder but all the jagged teeth suggest it goes for larger prey, yet it hangs out in the grassy plateaus. Too many inconsistencies. The Blaza also seems hastily concocted as it’s just an eel with a segmented chitinous shell that hangs out in the same place as Crab Snakes, who are supposed to be the apex of the Jelly Shroom Caves. This is where leviathans like that differ from ones like the Gargantuan. The Garguantuan Leviathan has real lore behind it, and its biome makes sense given how utterly massive it is. Feeding on the microorganism eating Ghost Leviathans that dwell in the dead zone makes perfect sense too. It even has a similar look, being somewhat translucent the larger it is, and even damages the player with its roar, showing the designers to have a working knowledge of how lethal sound can be at that level.
