  There’s a reason it’s the number one home defense weapon. Grew up dropping quail and pheasants, ducks, geese etc with it. If I ever end up fighting urban or otherwise my Remington 870 will be my gun of choice.

  My dad always had one under his bed. &nbsp;He never hunted, but was in extreme peril at the Chosin reservoir. &nbsp;They were overrun many times. &nbsp;He always refused to talk about being overrun. &nbsp;<br><br>He was supply, moving from position to position, determining what the units needed. &nbsp;Him and a major moved between the positions, &nbsp;never knowing what to expect what they faced around a corner. &nbsp;I once asked him if he killed men, but told me politely he didn&apos;t know. &nbsp;<br><br>The Battle of the Chosin reservoir was the worst loss in American &nbsp;history. &nbsp; My dad was in the middle of it, with a pump shotgun. &nbsp;I much later understood why he had a loaded shotgun under his bed, wherever he was. &nbsp;He had disturbing dreams until his death. &nbsp;I bought him a book about the Korean war, The Forgotten War. &nbsp;He was on Okinawa when it kicked off. &nbsp;They were destroyed when they were deployed to the Pusan Perimeter. &nbsp; Subsequently, his unit was deployed to support the Marines at the Chosin Reservoir. &nbsp;The book gave him nightmares. &nbsp;I understand now.

  The opening comment about saw-toothed German bayonets was complete propaganda. British Army and many other countries had equipped their infantry with saw-toothed bayonets and swords, especially the artillery and pioneer units since the early 1800s. Not because they created horrible wounds, but as a tool for cutting brush and wood for camp fires, fortifications, camouflaging positions, etc. The USA was the odd man out, they never used saw backs like the Europeans/Brits. The UK Baker rifle of &apos;Sharpe&apos; fame came with a saw-toothed sword bayonet in the early 1800s. The USA used proper carpentry saws &amp; axes where needed. The USA used tomahawks from the beginning, and still do in some units.<br><br>If you want to instil fear and submission in your enemy, nothing beats a Gurkha unit with drawn Khukuris. Just recently, a Gurkha on terminal leave was returning to be discharged on a civilian train. It was stopped and boarded by a dozen of AK47 armed bandits intent on robbing the passengers. He did not interfere until they started sexually assaulting a pair of women. He drew his khukuri and taught the bandits why the Gurkhas were so feared. he killed and wounded many of them, disarmed (literally) a few, and the rest fled. The Taliban found out the same lesson the hard way, by losing their heads.

  Thing of it is, The Model 1897/1912 is a rather small weapon. Five shots was about average for magazine size, and only the SMLE is as fast. The shot pattern sounds like nonsense, but going from no margin of error at 3am to a 4 inch spread is a huge help.

  The saw back bayonet was not designed to inflict wounds worse than acceptable, it was designed to saw through enemy barbed wire posts, the Germans tended to use metal post&apos;s.<br>Very good video but far too many scenes of Winchester and Browning rifles, could have instead shown the contents of a double O buckshot shotgun cartridge.
