  The only boxer I ever talked to. He herd me singing in the dressing room and yelled out don't quit your day job. He joined in and I didn't realize it was him until I came out. We both started laughing and dapped it out. Best defensive boxer ever...

  I was stationed in Norfolk and lived just down the street from Sweet Pea. Saw him daily. This was before he turned pro. What an amazing boxer.

  Thank you for bringing &quot;Sweet Pea&quot; to today&apos;s audiences, including me. I knew about him but alas watched far too few of his fights to fully appreciate his science of the most brutal of arts. Only now can I admire the craft, skill and greatness of this legendary fighter. RIP Pernell &quot;Sweet Pea&quot; Whitaker - a true great of the pugilistic art.

  It&apos;s not even that his physical movement is so fast, he is literally just always positioned perfectly. Amazing to watch this fighter.

  Pernell Sweet pea Whitaker was one hell of a boxer and I don&apos;t think he had any legitimately unquestionable losses. He arguably beat Julio Cesar Chavez and at least drew with Felix Trinidad. It&apos;s so darkly ironic how such a defensive wizard with so much heart, who could dodge everything, was run down by a careless heartless driver. Rest easy champ! You will always be in the boxing hall of Fame and on the Mount Rushmore of the sport.
