Buffalo Trace roadtrip for the new Elmer T. Lee. This bottle might be top 3 of 2026

🥃 ROADTRIP FOR OUR UNICORN BOTTLE! 🚗💨 Twelve hours on the clock, six hours on the road, and one bourbon we couldn’t stop thinking about! We left Decatur, Alabama, and headed to Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, to pick up the new Elmer T. Lee 40th Anniversary Single Barrel Bourbon. A long workday might have been behind us, but an unforgettable bourbon adventure was waiting ahead! If you’ve ever had a bucket-list bottle that made you say, “We HAVE to make this happen,” you already understand the excitement. This was our unicorn bottle—the kind of special release that turns an ordinary drive into a bourbon pilgrimage. We were heading straight to the source to bring home a piece of whiskey history, and we’re taking you along for the ride! From Alabama to Kentucky bourbon country, this trip brought together everything we love: roadtrip memories, distillery destinations, rare bourbon, and the anticipation of finally getting our hands on a bottle we had been looking forward to. After a 12-hour shift and a six-hour drive, seeing that Buffalo Trace sign felt like reaching the finish line of our own bourbon bucket-list adventure. And the reason for all those miles? Elmer T. Lee 40th Anniversary Edition—a limited release celebrating four decades of the bourbon bearing a legendary distiller’s name. For the first time, Elmer T. Lee Single Barrel Bourbon has been released uncut and unfiltered at its natural barrel proof. Across the release, individual barrels range from 124.8 to 138.6 proof, giving each bottle its own character and intensity. For single-barrel fans, barrel-proof enthusiasts, and bourbon collectors, that is an exciting combination: a respected name, a milestone anniversary, and a chance to experience Elmer T. Lee with a whole new level of strength and personality. This is the kind of release that sparks conversations throughout the whiskey community and puts a big circle around a date on a bourbon lover’s calendar. The distillery describes a profile featuring apricot, almond, vanilla, toasted coconut, and honeysuckle, followed by rich sweetness reminiscent of crème brûlée, toasted oak, and baking spice. Those are the producer’s tasting notes—our own bottle will have its own story to tell when it hits the glass! Behind the bottle is a legacy that makes this anniversary especially meaningful. Elmer T. Lee helped shape the modern single-barrel bourbon movement through the introduction of Blanton’s in 1984. His namesake bourbon followed in 1986, and this 40th Anniversary Edition celebrates the lasting influence of his craftsmanship and barrel selection. For us, getting this bottle was about the whole experience: making the trip together, arriving at Buffalo Trace, and finally holding the bourbon that had given us a reason to drive all those miles. Every time we look at it, we’ll remember. A bottle can become a memory. It can remind you of a place, an adventure, the people beside you, and the excitement of a hunt that finally paid off. This Elmer T. Lee anniversary bottle will always come with a roadtrip story attached! Come along as we chase our unicorn bottle and share our Buffalo Trace adventure.
