  In 2006 My friend lost his son in the afghanistan war. As he stood in front of the casket that was holding his 20 year old son.  Hundreds of people came through the line that night as 5 of his comrades worked in 30 min shifts standing by his open casket, full dressed and stone faced. As I stood there and viewed this young man whom i never met, I thought of the sacrifice he made. I was moved to tears. I took one more step and looked at the Marine standing there and i said in a broken voice "thank you for your service!" he gave me a single nod........ hours later, after the crowd dispersed there were a few of us who were there to clean up. We watched the 5 Marines as they closed the casket and draped the American flag over the casket then they all saluted him..... after all this, they got down on one knee, put a hand on the American flag covering the casket and sobbed.  I have never seen anything like this and I will never forget, the sacrifice these young men make for us.

  I had a buddy on the team. Told me it was one of the proudest time of his life. They buried him about 10 years ago. Full circle. Semper Fi brother.

  I've been out of the Marine Corps proper for nearly 50 years. I still salute perfectly. Semper fi.

  I was stationed at 8th & I Marine Barracks back in 1993-1996.  This video brought back a lot of memories. Semper Fi Marines.
