Old Spartans didn't get that way by being easy to kill.

The "IF" quote reminds me of the following:<br>"Shortly before World War I, the German Kaiser was the guest of the <br>Swiss government to observe military maneuvers. The Kaiser asked a <br>Swiss militiaman: 'You are 500,000 and you shoot well, but if we <br>attack with 1,000,000 men what will you do?' The soldier replied: 'We <br>will shoot twice and go home.'"

I love the line, “Yes. This is Fact Fiend. We always have stories.”

Makes sense. If you were an old Spartan, you survived everything life has thrown at you, most likely via killing it.

In Germany we literally laugh about Radler because it has almost no alcohol, there's literally a song about that here

To paraphrase Terry Pratchet: Don't mess with someone who has grown old in a profession that doesn't encourage survival.

Fun fact: Radler literally means "person who rides a bike". It was originally the drink you would get in the summer when you made a stop during a bike tour. Cause it's not safe to be drunk in the sun on a bike, but we're German, we want our beer! So just mix it with some lemonaid and there you go :) Also, it's fucking refreshing!

You forgot the most important part of the old man wandering the Olympic Games story. <br><br>The crowd applauded the Spartans’ kind gesture to which the old man faced them and said, “All Greeks know what is right, but only Spartans do it.”

A thing to point out about the exposure of infants was that if someone found and took in the child, or if it survived for two days it would be allowed to live.

this is a quote I once heard, “beware the old man in the land where men die young” or something like that.
