The "sheriff" was dishonest and a coward. One, he told the bad guys that something was going down. Then, he got out of the way while the others were shot by Clint. Now, Clint is disgusted over the fact that it took 3 yrs to get $2000. That's a long time to do NOTHING to protect the town's ppl. So, he's obviously afraid and being paid to protect the bad guys. He damn sure wasn't going to stop Clint from removing his badge. All he could do was stand there. The "sheriff" doesn't have anyone to back home up now so the ppl can elect a new one.

Since so many missed it. They guy Clint asks for a light and who points of Cavanaugh is the sheriff and then he straight runs to the barbershop to rat out Clint to Cavanaugh's gang, the three guys that tries to free him. That's why Clint strips him off the badge after asking the questions.<br>The reason he doesn't beat him with the right hand is when he gets the shit kicked out of him in the first movie "A Fistfull of Dollars" they stomp on his shooting hand and that's why he wears the leather support.

People! The sheriff was the one who told Clint where Kavanaugh was...then went to tell Kavanaugh's friends that there was a bounty killer about to finish him off. That's why Clint accused him of dishonesty, etc. It's the SAME GUY...the sheriff and the man Clint asked in the bar. You gotta pay attention to the details.

They had to fan the hammer of the gun because they were single shot pistols, if you pull the trigger you will get one shot, so if you hold the trigger and by fanning the hammer you get as many shots as you can fan off.
