Ridley Scott’s historical films are so weird. Like, they often include the most minute, interesting historical details, but then the entire central crux of the film (timeline, main character, etc.) is so incorrect that it all becomes pointless.

a bit annoying that they always portray the statues as white in these movies, when there's evidence that they were painted in vibrant colors that just faded over the years

In the opening scene we can see Lucius growing pumpkins... Pumpkins came to Europe with Columbus in 1492, about 1300 years after the events of the movie...

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipLDd-bBrGo&t=2402">40:02</a> - aren’t there some historians that think that Caligula making his horse Consul wasn’t an act of insanity, but instead was him metaphorically flipping off the Senate by saying they were so useless his horse could do a better job than them? Safe to say it’s pretty clear that’s not what’s happening with the monkey in this movie.
