  The lead guitarist, Jerry Cantrell wrote this song for his father, who was in Vietnam.  The older gentleman at the beginning is his father. His nickname was Rooster or it's what Vietnamese called the soldiers because of eagle on their uniforms. You need to listen to Love, Hate, Love live at the Moore. One of the best performances. Sadly the vocalist, Layne Staley has died. My favorite vocalist. Rest in Power. ☮️💜🤘🔥

  The older gentleman at the beginning of the video is the guitarist&apos;s (Jerry Cantrell) father. &nbsp;He was called Rooster as a child because his hair stuck up straight. &nbsp;He served 2 tours in Vietnam, and like many others he came back a different man. &nbsp;Jerry&apos;s parents were divorced before he turned 8 years old. &nbsp;This was written about his father&apos;s experiences in the war - or at least what Jerry thought it was like.<br><br>The Lead singer is Layne Staley. &nbsp;If you are going to listen to more of Alice in Chains, there is a whole other story about Layne and his life that is tragic and heartbreaking. &nbsp;I won&apos;t spoil it for you, but the band is well worth the listen if you want to continue. &nbsp;Layne has one of the most haunting voices in rock and you can&apos;t go wrong if you decide to go deeper.

  You should try I Stay Away from Jar of Flies(1994). Also Alice in Chains. It&apos;s like an unexpected gift of musical arrangement. First time I heard it, I wept.

  The M 60 machine gun, was called a Rooster Gun, by the Vietnamese, because of the unusual butt stock shape. Looked like a Rooster Crest. &nbsp;The Vietnamese thus called those carrying them Rooster Men, or just Rooster for short. &nbsp;Obviously, machine gunners, were targeted first in a conflict, &nbsp;take out the most firepower first. At Jerry’s request, he had his father listen to the song..he wanted to make sure that he got it right. &nbsp;Jerry’s father cried when he first heard it. Touching story really, and changes how you listen to the lyrics. &nbsp;Jerry wrote that in hopes of letting his father know that he was heard and understood over the years. &nbsp;Sometimes the best medicine, is just knowing that someone understands

  I&apos;m Canadian and my wife is Vietnamese, my father-in-law fought with the us troops, this war was fucked up, like all wars, and was devastating for everyone involved

  If you listen to their album &apos;Dirt&apos; you will understand who they are. Layne Staley the amazing voice of the band sadly died at only 34. 😔
