Welcome to UK summer weather, where you take an umbrella, sun hat, jacket and sunscreen with you because no one knows what's going to happen.

Sadly, Blackpool is reflective of a lot of British seaside towns nowdays. Unless its the height of tourist season and every attraction is open, they have a run-down, ghost-town feel to them and are a bit shady and uncomfortable to be in, especially if you're not local.

The 5 rides that are being closed aren't anything to do with the monetary losses the park has sustained, data analysed by the park suggested that the 5 rides were very rarely used by guests, the decision was then made to remove these rides freeing up space for the future. A brand new £8.7 million gyroswing is being installed for 2026 with a new rollercoaster being eyed up for 2027. There's also a lot of investment being made into current attractions such as 5 new scenes being added to Wallace & Gromit and a whole re-vamp of the river caves.

Blackpool will get a bit busier in 2 or 3 weeks from now cos kids are off school for summer holidays for 6 weeks. But it's been on a slow decline for as long as I can remember.

blackpool local here!! it's so refreshing to see someone speak so positively about my hometown!! it lacks funding for sure, but if you look in the right places it's just hardworking people. young people and entertainment/leisure/amusement are the backbone of the town, so it's really sweet to see someone praise the PB so highly!! :))

17:02 Walt Disney visited the Pleasure Beach quite often, and had a good relationship with the Thompson family. The friendship, and mutual connection with Arrow led to Alice's Wonderland being a thing at the Pleasure Beach.

Blackpool is sort of the epitome of a british cultural concept that I'm not sure we have a name for, but that is kitsch-adjacent where something is dreary, and dismal, and quite shit, but beloved. Like it's a seaside resort town with almost perenially shit weather, the piers are as you observed very off-the-shelf and haven't changed much at all over the decades, the theme park is a random hodge-podge of rides from over the past century, Blackpool Tower is literally just a shitty off brand Eiffel Tower. One of the things Blackpool is (or was) known for is the Illuminations, the coloured and themed lights that go up along the main strip when the nights get darker, and as an adult in the 21st century, it's hard to imagine how they ever weren't underwhelming to me.

God I love Blackpool.

As someone from the north of England, Blackpool and Blackpool pleasure beach hold a really special place in my heart. I went to see the illuminations with my grandparents as a child, Blackpool pleasure beach with my friends as a child/teen and I still go at least yearly with my mum as an adult. A huge part of its charm is its kitschy and “run-down” nature and I’m so glad you picked up on that in this video. The weather is generally miserable but on those rare sunny days it’s always packed! I really hope all the attractions I love stay afloat because I plan to take my children there (in the far future when I have them) and I have so many amazing memories associated with not just pleasure beach but the town in general. Thank you for such a lovely video and your positivity!

Might be a little busier if they stopped charging people just to walk through the gates. It used to be mega-busy before before they started doing that.

As a kid in the 70s, you were allowed to walk round the Pleasure beach for free and pay for each ride you wished to ride. The modern way means paying a large amount in advance and maybe not getting on any rides.
In these times of austerity a lot of people cant afford these large entry fees.

I find the negativity around Blackpool to be bizarre. It's by far my favourite town in England and I try and visit every year. I'm sure it has rough areas but the promenade and amusement park and even town centre is lovely.

One of the big problems they have was self inflicted. At one time, anyone was free to roam the park and you could buy tokens or a wristband for rides - but now that they charge people to go in, they take away any passing trade. I know when I went there as a kid, we'd always wander up there and get some food, or go on a few rides.
I was there over weekend and was surprised by how quiet it was (wait times hit a peak of 20mins all day), but we still really enjoyed our visit. The Big Blue Hotel is lovely, and the fact that they offer free park tickets for certain stays is brilliant. Honestly don't think Blackpool fully deserves the reputation it has.
