Romulan: The Untold Story of BC’s Legendary Cannabis Clone

Romulan is one of the most legendary and least understood strains in cannabis history, a clone-only indica from Vancouver Island that was so famous in the British Columbia scene that a room full of people identified it by smell alone before anyone said what it was. This video tells the full story of where it came from, who brought it to Vancouver, the four competing origin stories that nobody can verify, and how its genetics ended up hiding inside some of the most popular strains of the last twenty years through paths almost nobody has traced. What's covered in this video: The nineteen ninety-seven moment at Hemp BC in Vancouver when a grower named Romulan Joe opened a bag of weed and every person in the room recognized it by the pine smell before he said a word about what it was. The four competing origin stories for Romulan, from Korean War veterans growing sativas on Vancouver Island in the fifties to Mendocino Joe fleeing a Sacred Seeds raid in eighty-two, and why every version comes from someone with seeds to sell. Why the Romulan name has nothing to do with the cloaking device and everything to do with the way the high dents your head like a Romulan forehead from Star Trek. What the plant smells like, tastes like, and smokes like, including the sharp pine-and-pepper nose, the delayed-onset body high that catches experienced smokers off guard, and why the buds never look as impressive as they hit. The British Columbia cannabis scene in the nineties, Marc Emery's Hastings Street storefront, the two-billion-dollar export market, and where Romulan sat among God Bud, Island Sweet Skunk, and Texada Timewarp. How Federation Seeds acquired the Romulan clone, the street talk about how they got it, and the White Rhino backcross that turned a clone-only strain into a seed line for the first time. The indica-versus-sativa debate between Federation and Next Generation Seed Company, and why their descriptions of the same strain contradict each other on the most basic question about its genetics. The Space Queen cross with Brothers Grimm's Cinderella 99 that became the single most important thing that ever happened to Romulan genetics. How Subcool built almost his entire TGA Genetics catalog on a Space Queen male he called Space Dude, including Jillybean, Querkle, Jack the Ripper, Vortex, and Chernobyl. The Golden Goat accident in Kansas where a Hawaiian-Romulan male pollinated an Island Sweet Skunk female and created one of Colorado's most popular strains by accident. The irony that Romulan's most famous descendants are fruity, sativa-leaning strains that look and smoke nothing like their heavy indica grandparent. The honest truth about whether every heavy indica really traces back to Romulan, and what the strain's actual place in the cannabis family tree looks like. Why the original Romulan Joe clone is reportedly lost and what seed reproductions exist today from Next Generation, Federation, Romulan Genetics, and Brothers Grimm.
