As a teen in the 80s, when a song like this broke thru the Top 40, pop, it was a breath of fresh air. Kinda like a Tears for Fears song..same vibe. 80s were a great time to be a teen.❤❤

This is one of those songs that act like a time machine for me: When that guitar riff starts in the intro, I'm instantly taken back to being 7 years old, brushing my teeth in the morning before school in fall 1987, with this song playing on the radio in the bathroom.
