Its like when Russell Westbrook tries to get fans thrown out for heckling him, i dare him to try that somewhere like Turkey, not only would they not get thrown out, another thousand or two would probably join in and hed be lucky if a group of guys weren't waiting for him outside after the game, a lot of these NBA players dont understand how chilled most US fans are by comparison, i dont think quite a few of the NBA players wouldn't be able to handle it....Candace Parker is right in fact I've been to a football match at Fenerbahce, the McDonald's near the stadium is painted in Fenerbahce colours, because it kept getting vandalised because the McDonald's red and yellow was too similar to Galatasaray's colours, so they changed it to Fener's colours

As crazy as it is, all said in the vid are true. Especially in countries like greece (my homeland), turkey and serbia, football might be first in popularity, but basketball comes second with the same insanity. Heck most of the time you will also have football ultra groups also supporting their local basketball team, bringing the same passion and madness to those games. As for when the euroleague plays, its on right now if you want to check it

In the US sport is an entertainment product. You eat corn dogs, shout "defense defense!" and watch commercials. In Europe, sports is a sort of successor to gladiator fights. It's always do or die, with all brutality, blood, guts. No surprise that something explodes or someone spits in your face. It's basically a fight. And it's not about some particular kind of sport or country. You should see those russian figure skating fans...

Some of it may seem familiar because the series has been well clipped by others without naming it (giving up a golden goose of clips) - since they can claim their source was the original clip used for the series but the way they group them together from the same episodes in the series is a bit of a give away. And none of us going through a dozen podcasts over many years to find clips for our 20 minute video, ya know..

[edit] the difference is Europe is melee, US is ranged.

There is an important difference between the USA and Europe (=rest of the world) when it comes to "where do they get new players?" In the USA everything is organised through the colleges ... which is why they NEED big stadiums for every kind of sport AND THOSE HAVE TO BE PAID FOR BY STUDENT FEES, hence ... part of the STUDENT DEBT is probably because of these costs. (It's not just the building cost but also the maintenance.)
>>> ... and then there is "the draft", which seems to me like a COW AUCTION (but picking one is "free") with a predetermined order of picks. Players are 20-22 years old. <<<

In Europe this is done through CLUBS and their YOUTH DIVISIONS, where kids can play "sport X" for a club ... and then MAYBE get discovered at 14-16 and put into training camps of a club with a professional team, to have their debut at ~18 ... which is a 2-4 year age advantage over the US system!

Dirk Nowitzki joined the NBA when he was 18 IIRC.

---

There is a second and third part to this:
>> What would happen if you tried to establish a basketball club in the USA? You would probably ask a school if you could use their facilities for it ... and then the school would present you with a bill, which would drive up the cost and thus any kids willing to join your club would have to pay LARGE sums of money to finance it. In Europe you pay maybe ~€100 per year, since the schools - public properties/organisations - arent going to demand money (they dont run on "making profits") from "organisations of public interest". They might charge small amounts for it ... and demand/expect that the facilities are treated responsibly, but that isnt a problem here.
[I have heard about kids in the USA wanting to play football (the real stuff) having to pay THOUSANDS to some organisation ("club"?) probably because it is again a "for profit" organisation.]

>> The FRANCHISES (TEAMS) in the USA ... SHOULD ... take up the responsibilities for training their own new players, but they simply pocket the money and offload that responsibility to the colleges. The clubs in Europe do this ... and the general culture accepts that "the general public" should help them by allowing them to use the facilities.

It's very simple: the home fans are showing their pride, the away team is just trying to survive 🤷🏻♂️ It's like a civil war on a smaller scale
