Considering the state the Soviet Union was in after WW2 it was great accomplishment by the government building so many houses in such a short time.

They may not look fancy and stylish, but they are functional, solid and do the job.

security was an added bonus, but I believe the two doors, especially the one with padding" is to keep the heat in and create a thermal barrier to the outside, because you see that even in the rural parts of russian and other post-soviet nations

Если вы когда-нибудь были в японских квартирах для среднего класса, которые стоят безумно космических денег, то поймёте, что советские хрущёвки — просто комфортабельные дворцы за доступные деньги. Всё познаётся в сравнении.

I swear, the Soviet buildings in Kabul, Afghanistan have the exact same architecture and style, but they feel way less depressing because of Kabul’s weather and sunlight.

As a American that grew up in the 80s and 90s in low-income section 8 housing this is almost exactly the way we lived. The moms and grandmoms knew each other and where the security, the kids all played in a Comin area all day. The houses were small we had our own places and had washers but no dryers. It was very similar not the same but similar. 👍

It’s honestly not a bad building. It just needs some TLC. A little bit of effort will make a huge difference.

I wish our affordable housing looked like this. It may be older, but everything looks kept up. Clean. Simple.

What matters is love and harmony in the family and amongst neighbors. That determines how happy your childhood was.

Excellent video. I saw it randomly and I'm glad I did.

That golden hour shot of the building rows has such a quiet, melancholic beauty to it. There's something about vast, uniform architecture like this that feels strangely peaceful at dusk
