And just like that, I need to rewatch the entire (extended) trilogy.

I love how the Shire theme leads so seamlessly into the Fellowship theme. Whenever the Shire theme pops into my head (which is often), I always find myself eventually humming the Fellowship theme as well.

14:43 You are hearing the Shire theme because Aragorn (and therefore you also) are thinking of the Hobbits as the camera switches to him. It is essentially the music that urges him to save the Hobbits, as the following dialogue indicates. This is classic and masterful use of the Wagnerian leitmotiv system which allows the composer to expose the unspoken thoughts and feelings of a character. It has never been done better, even by Wagner himself.

I never noticed the change in the theme exactly timed when Sam takes the step forward into the adventure. This is masterful songwriting. Impressive.

I've listened to the OST for Lord of the Rings hundreds of times. One of my favorite things about the Fellowship theme is that there is no point after the "walking past rocks" moment where you get that full triumphant sound, because there is no point after that where the whole party is together and triumphant. Soon after that point, Gandalf leaves the party, then at the end of Fellowship, we lose Boromir. So this is the only point, right at the start of the journey, where Howard Shore really lets the full triumph out with all the different instruments that represent each party member (although we do have several parts that feel almost as triumphant, but not quite as full - always something is missing).

I really hope you analyze the lighting of the beacons of Minas Tirith. One of my personal favorite compositions of the entire trilogy.

The entire LOTR soundtrack is amazing. I never thought I would hear a score that could not only compete with Williams, but this goes ever farther. It's just the best.

One of my favorite details about the music in the trilogy is how when the fellowship theme plays with the whole fellowship together,it’s every instrument but when it plays with just some fellowship members it is only played with certain instruments.
