when I first learned about the Odyssey and got to the wind bag part, the first thing I thought off was "wait, the Spongebob Movie thing came from here?"

So Spongebob and Patrick were the "Sea people" constantly mentioned in the movie. A brilliant homage by Nolan!

12:23 are we gonna gloss over that spongebob and patrick had to resist the goofy goober theme song? That seems like the ACTUAL parallel to the sirens.

You could also argue that Plankton is the stand-in for Polyphemus, as he too is a cyclops, and the real catalyst for the Spongebob movie's plot. (he tricks Neptune into thinking Krabs stole his crown. Hence, a cyclops is responsible for invoking the wrath of the sea god)

As a literary analog for the epic, I would argue Plankton is meant to share the role, him inviting the wrath of Neptune on Mr. Crabs mirrors the prayer Polyphemus makes to his father. But the physical threat of the cyclops locking the crew in his cave is represented by the diver.

It does have the same plot points, The Hero who’s on a journey far from home, The angry God, The helpful goddess, A bag of winds, A siren, A Cyclops, And last but certainly not least David Hasselhoff………..What? You don’t remember Odysseus riding on the back of the majestic Hasselhoff? What version of the Odyssey did you read?
