  Hollywood is a soul less hell that used talent until they became dispensable, then heartlessly discarded them without a care for their well-being. The casting couch was also a disgusting blot on Hollywood from the beginning.

  How terribly sad - I recall some of these stars from my youth going to the movies. No one should have to die in such poverty.

  Another actor who qualified for this list was Jerry Howard (better known as "Curly" of The Three Stooges). After years of indulging in overeating, heavy drinking, and maintaining a wild, reckless lifestyle, Howard's health began to decline toward the end of 1943. He ignored the warning signs. He also ignored pleas from his partners Larry Fine and Moe Howard (who was also his older brother) to get medical attention. Howard began suffering mild strokes in 1945, culminating in a massive stroke in 1946, which ended his film career. Howard tried to recover and return to work, but the damage had been done. Additional strokes in the late 1940s caused him to begin suffering from dementia. By 1951, Howard was completely bedridden, unable to speak, and had to be placed in a sanitarium (a forerunner of today's nursing homes). He died in January 1952 at the age of 48. Howard had made a fortune during his years as a Stooge, but he had spent his money as fast as he earned it. When he was forced into retirement, it was only the financial generosity of his former partners that kept him housed and fed. Like the other celebs on the list, his final years were a living nightmare. If you do another video on Hollywood's most tragic figures, you might consider adding Jerry "Curly" Howard to the list.

  What I find interesting is how so many of these people who died after falling on bad times and then their so-called "friends" went around collecting money for their funeral. These people are rich but they couldn't just pay for an old friend's burial?
