  You will need a couple of fountains in it to aerate the water, so it causes bubbles, to keep the water moving around, so it does not get stagnant.

  Put a small dock in it with a light on the water surface that will attract insects at night. It looks nice and the fish loves it.

  Fish need something to eat so water vegetation plus aeration. Also put a fence up by the road as vehicle drivers love to hit or crash into anything roadside.

  To clear the pond, add a floating aquaponic island where water is pumped up and filtered through a system of rock and sand. Add plants that love sun and water to the island and then add some mosquito fish to start. They don't need as much oxygen and they'll eat any mosquito and other larvae in the pond as well as the algae. Add copepods, shrimp and other small aquatic life. The algae will come with the rain. Frogs will show up when they decide it is a good place to spawn.

  It would be cool if you put a wildlife camera up or filmed the wildlife that turned up to the pond when it’s done.

  You should put in some logs or cover for the fish.  Also, if you're going to put a small dock in so you can fish from, now is the time.

  You mentioned stocking trout. Some things to take into consideration with them are water temperatures, pH levels, and how many ppm of oxygen are in your water. Trout are very sensitive and need cold water to survive. They can survive up to 68-70 degrees but that's not ideal. Preferably below 60 to have the healthiest trout. The colder, the better. Cold, Spring fed ponds are best if your going to have a trout pond. If your pond is deep enough, (20+ feet deep) then the trout could get below the thermacline and maybe survive, as the water will be much cooler on the bottom. Trout also need 10 ppm of oxygen to survive, with pH levels preferably above 6.5 to around 8. ( Up to 9 is ok) Another disadvantage to trout is that they most likely won't naturally reproduce in the pond so you guys will have to continuously buy and stock them all the time. I used to raise trout for years,  and they can be a lot of work, however, very rewarding with the right conditions. My recommendation for what kind of fish to stock in a pond like that would be large mouth bass, bluegills, and possibly some perch or walleye. Could even maybe throw in a few channel catfish.   If you want fish, you will need to sink a tree or two into the dam to give the fish a place to hide and breed. I suggest only putting them in one end so it is still nice to swim in the rest of it without getting tangled up in anything.  Short lengths of concrete or clay pipes and large concrete pots will also give the fish some habitat.

  In seismic surveys, we used bentonite (in cardboard tubes) to seal the boreholes of the explosive charges. When bentonite gets wet, it swells up! So after filing the borehole with betonite, we added a few buckets of water. 🙂<br>(Hence the other bentonite-name, swellingclay!)

  I would flatten and flare the edges a little and add sand on one end to use as a beach
