There are only 6 Star Wars
Films. The other abominations are just hallucinations of a mad lobotomised jellyfish.

TFA and TLJ share equal blame. TFA was a clone of ANH with a bunch of J.J. Abrams mystery boxes. Johnson took a shit in the mystery boxes, lit them on fire, and called you an idiot for caring about the mystery boxes.

Ruin Johnson and KK truly obliterated the greatest juggernaut ever. There's no excuse for any of it. Lucas betrayed everyone by selling it in the first place.

Having Leia flying through outer space was so dumb

The force projection being the most jedi thing? Absolutely not. The most jedi thing was when he refused to fight his father in Return of the Jedi.

Rian had some decent ideas and I respect the desire to do something new with Star Wars. That's what George Lucas would've done. The problem is not the concept, it's the execution. Rian properly diagnosed the issues with The Force Awakens, but his solution derailed the entire Start Wars franchise. TFA and TLJ represent two extreme opposites. A good film would be somewhere in the middle, but these films are both horrible in very different ways.

Rian clearly hated JJ's mystery box writing technique, and I don't blame him. It's a terrible writing tool because it puts you in a narrative corner. JJ left Rian a tangled mess of mysteries to piece together, and Rian didn't want to do that, so he made a spectacle out of throwing them all into the narrative trash can.

So it's true that Rian inherited a mess and was right to see that, but he responded in the worst way possible. As an audience, watching this movie feels like you're getting the rug pulled out from under you over and over again. Rian focused too much on making his movie a philosophical response to The Force Awakens than he did on making an actually good movie. As a result, the messages in the film fall flat.

It's not just the Canto Bite sequence which is full of bad, preachy dialogue, self defeating messages, and absurd contrivances, but the entire Poe/Holdo arc is arguably worse. Talk about a self defeating message. Leia scolds Poe for disobeying orders in order to save the entire Resistance fleet. Leia seemingly doesn't understand the cost of war and that if the heroes piloting the bombers didn't lay down their lives, the Dreadnought would have killed them all. It's a strange reaction from her considering she was also present for the trench run on the original Death Star where everyone but Luke and Wedge was killed but Luke's victory was still celebrated. Poe is instead demoted for his heroism, and then Holdo arrives to teach Poe that you should always blindly follow authority, even when your commanding officer appears to be allowing everyone to die while refusing to communicate even an ounce of hope that there's a plan or a way to save the Resistance. It's this kind of god-awful writing that shows why defenders of this film can only praise the broad themes and concepts, because once you examine the application of those ideas it falls apart so fast.

Then you get Luke. Again, I don't really have an issue with the concept, at least in a vacuum. Seeing our heroes fail and lose hope can humanize them in new ways, and my gripe with Luke's deconstruction was never that he's supposed to be perfect. The most baffling part of Rian's decision to make Luke a grumpy old failure is that JJ already did that to Han and Leia. The audience already had to suffer seeing their heroes alone and depressed, in the wake of the destruction they caused with their own complacency. Luke, once again became the representation of hope for the entire franchise like he was in the OT, except this time he was also the hope for the fans. Rian Johnson destroyed that. Even if he nailed the writing and really made it work, I would still argue that it was a horrible decision in the first place to take the character in that direction. But he didn't nail the writing either. I could go through it in detail, but the main thing I want to point out is that Luke never actually confronts his mistakes or makes up for them. When he projects himself to Krait and stands before his nephew, he just taunts him. He's mean and is just flexing his power over Ben instead of showing any kind of love, maybe saying something like, " I'm sorry I failed you." I think that's why his "redemption" feels so hollow. And then he just dies because he... used the Force too hard? It's such a huge waste. I'll never understand why people defend such a horrible film.

I've never been a fan of the world between worlds, but a lesser fan of the sequels. So go for it Disney.

By this logic Obi Wan should of sparked up his light saber when Anakin was asleep . Plenty of more capable Jedi before .

I think Kathleen Kennedy saw Lucas and Spielberg pick up right where they left off so many times, I believe she thought she could just replicate that, WITH HER GENIUS THE FORCE IS FEMALE! Why do you think Lucas left her in charge? He thought she could just pick up right where they left off, SHE WAS AROUND THEM FOR DECADES but it was obvious, she learned nothing about storytelling but as a producer who can get things done! Lucas thought Star Wars was in safe hands with Kathleen, Boy talk about being hoodwinked
