As a kid, growing up in Kenya in the 50s, my dad would take me to Nairobi airport on a Sunday to see how many attempts to get airborne the Air France Constellation would take.  At 5700 feet and near the equator, the hot / high combination would always make it challenging as they attempted to continue the journey through from Southern Africa towards Europe.  Once airborne, they’d fly low to the west where the great Rift Valley would afford them altitude to turn north and burn off fuel .  Thanks for this wonderful footage,  the take off especially stirred some memories.

memories: born in 1945 and still going strong I travelled in my youth with the KLM Connie from Amsterdam to Santiago de Chile and back. It took 57 hours I remember because of the weather over the Atlantic and we had to wait in Accra for some time. Much later I have been traveling with the Concorde a couple of times. Great memories!

Easily the best looking airliner ever.

Flew on one from Bogota to Buenos Aires in 1960 on Avianca. The seats were wide and everybody smoked. I also remember cruising over the Andes with oil streaks coming out over the wings from the piston engines.

IMO the connies were the most beautiful and downright sexiest commercial aircraft ever made.

Great video Paul. I worked on the Camarillo California Connie in the 90s. It became the Breitling Connie in Switzerland.

Sitting still they are running up the prop rpm to check magneto output and bringing up the cylinder head temperature to where they need to be for full power takeoff. Lock the nosewheel and rudders and release the brakes, set the flaps, advance the throttles. Here we go!
