Jason was never competing in the movie,it was Freddy. Jason was doing what he always did. Freddy wanted to be remembered,he got it. Jason was never trying to compete with Freddy over something.

I wish the pinhead version could have happened . I can see both Freddy and Jason in hell charging towards one another , suddenly chains manifest , wrapping and restraining both Jason and Freddy . Camera pulls back revealing pinhead who grins and says “now now …can’t we all just get along “ cut to black run credits .

Too bad that ending w/ Pinhead never happened. It would have ended with Jason & Freddy duking it out in Hell with the Hell Priest intervening between them. When he gets their attention, he simply says 'Is there a problem, gentlemen?' And then the screen fades to black. I would have loved that ending...

Jason won by way of both standing tall and longevity rules. He "lived" well into the 25th century. Especially if we count the Freddy vs Jason vs Ash comics.Freddy's evil gets wiped out by an US agent sent back in time by the magic on display in Washington. Jason gets decapitated, but Pamela's voice keeps keeps talking, ensuring he's not dead-dead and will eventually put himself back together, before being taken to the research facility.

At the end of the movie Freddy is in 3 pieces impaled through the heart with his own gloved arm laying at the bottom of Crystal Lake and Jason is carrying Freddy's severed head.

It's not hard.

The wink is Robert Englund's final good bye and "Thank You" to the fans.

I still think we need all of the horror characters together in a series of movies. They did it way back in the day with Frankenstein, Wolfman, Dracula in The House of Dracula. They could make it something like Deadites vs Cenobites.

The problem with “killing” Freddy in the physical world, is that it just resets him to the dream world. The only way to stop Freddy permanently is to trap him in the real world and keep him alive in his human form. He needs to be put into a waking coma, unable to dream, unable to move. You heard it here first. I’ll take my check when Hollywood inevitably steals my idea, thank you.

Freddy being only a head at the end but, he winked, there has to be something to it.

Let’s reframe it - did Jason Voorhees put Freddy Krueger away? No. He failed.

Freddy became more powerful than he was at the beginning of the film, a severed head would not have survived on its own.

In 1997 I wrote Freddy vs Jason as a short story for my 8th grade English class. Needless to say it was better than the movie. Regardless, my ending had Pinhead pulling both Freddy and Jason into Hell. Michael Meyers was involved as well, but he escaped.
