An ancestor of mine settled in Stanton, Va in the late 1700's. He never knew what indoor plumbing was. Electricity came 65 yrs after he died. I have a great appreciation for these stories.

Watching from Toronto, Canada & today is our first snowfall too. <br>My parents were from small settlements in Newfoundland along the Atlantic ocean where most were ship builders or fishermen. I would visit from Gander (which could easily get 4' of snow but probably wasn't as bitter cold as the frontier or our prairies) but their home villages I remember big kitchens with a wood stove to heat the entire house, chamber pots & outhouses. I thought it was horrid but loved playing at the mostly rocky beaches. Newfoundland eventually joined Canada in 1949 before my birth but the prime of my parents lives where they met in the new town of Gander.<br>I absolutely love your illustrations & this is my first "EpicBoringHistory" story, but I'll be back. 🇨🇦
