"The face that launched a thousand ships". Such a poetic description.

I love how Sean Bean (Odysseus) had more scenes on the Director's Cut. Showed his character more depth as a wise leader and brave warrior.

Hector represents, even today, all the qualities of a good leader and a real man. Brave, fair, considerate, capable... for me is the true real hero of the Iliad.

28:09 True story: the Ajax brand was actually named after this hero, because he's powerful!

The downside of the extended edition is that it doesn't have the original soundtrack.

Hector suffered the consequences of bad decisions two times, with his brother and with his father that choices attack the camp. Even with this, Hector keep the respect with the family.

Achilles was the son of the sea nymph Thetis, and Peleus, king of the Myrmidons in Phthia (Thessaly). This union made Achilles a demigod, his mother notably attempting to make him invulnerable by dipping him in the River Styx, leaving his heel as his only weak point.

The 2004 movie Troy took massive creative liberties to streamline the epic for modern audiences, completely removing the divine interventions that drove both characters' motivations. This radically altered how both Prince Paris and King Priam behaved compared to their original roles in the Iliad.Prince ParisIn the film, Paris is portrayed sympathetically as a flawed but courageous young prince who accidentally kills Achilles. The Iliad presents a much more complex and divisive figure. The Cowardice Factor: In the movie, Paris is humbled and ultimately acts with honor in the end. In the Iliad, Paris is often criticized for his avoidance of the battlefield and preference for luxury. He is literally whisked away to safety by the goddess Aphrodite when facing Menelaus in a one-on-one duel, much to the frustration of the Trojan people and his brother Hector. His Fate: In the movie, Paris escapes the burning city with Helen. In Homeric tradition, he is actually killed on the battlefield by the poisoned arrows of the Greek archer Philoctetes long before the fall of Troy.Motivation: In the epic, Paris's actions are deeply intertwined with the gods—he is favored by Aphrodite and driven by fate. Without the gods present in the 2004 film, his actions were altered to make him a more grounded, realistic lover.King PriamIn the film, Priam is framed primarily as a tragic, sympathetic father figure whose only major acts in the narrative are relying on a disastrous peace strategy and begging Achilles for Hector's body. His character is largely softened for cinematic impact.Military Misguidance: In the film, Priam refuses Hector's tactical advice. In the Iliad, Priam's role as a leader goes much deeper. He is an aged statesman who watches the battle from the city walls and interacts heavily with both the Greek and Trojan leaders, though the Iliad focuses tightly on the Greek perspective and Achilles' rage. His Death: In the movie, Agamemnon ruthlessly slaughters Priam inside his own palace during the sack of Troy. This is one of the most drastic deviations from the myth. In the original myth and Homeric tradition, Priam is not killed by Agamemnon, but is brutally murdered at the altar of Zeus by Achilles' son, Neoptolemus (Pyrrhus), when the city falls. The Ransom: The most famous interaction between Priam and Achilles—the midnight visit to beg for Hector's body—is one of the few elements the movie retains with emotional accuracy. However, even this scene in the Iliad is steeped in divine intervention, as the god Hermes physically escorts Priam to Achilles' camp.

Achilles was always my favorite character in Homer's Illiad. He had it all.

Hector is the best man in this tale. Period.

Peter O´Toole´s voice... like a king. Great role as King Priam of Troy.
