"If they ever tell my story, let them say I walked with giants. Men rise and fall like the winter wheat, but these names will never die.
Let them say I lived in the time of Hector tamer of horses. Let them say, I lived in the time of Achilles." - Odysseus

A lot of beautiful dialouges in this movie. This is my favorite movie of all-time.

"Men are haunted by the vastness of eternity. And so we ask ourselves: will our actions echo across the centuries? Will strangers hear our names long after we are gone, and wonder who we were, how bravely we fought, how fiercely we loved?" - Odysseus

"I've killed men, brother. I've watched them dying, I've heard them dying, I've smelled them dying. There's nothing glorious about it, nothing poetic. You say you want to die for love, but you know nothing about dying. You know nothing about love." - Hector

"All my life, I've lived by a code and the code is simple: honor the gods, love your woman and defend your country! Troy is mother to us all. Fight for her!" - Hector

"Let no man forget how menacing we are. We are lions! Do you know what's there, waiting beyond that beach? Immortality! Take it! It's yours!" - Achilles

"I've fought many wars in my time. Some I've fought for land, some for power, some for glory. I suppose fighting for love makes more sense than all the rest." - King Priam

"You're still my enemy tonight. But even enemies can show respect." - King Priam

"The Gods envy us. They envy us because we're mortal. Because any moment might be our last. Everything's more beautiful because we're doomed. You will never be lovelier than you are now. We will never be here again." - Achilles

"You gave me peace in a lifetime of war." - Achilles

"If they ever tell my story, let them say I walked with giants. Men rise and fall like the winter wheat, but these names will never die. Let them say I lived in the time of Hector, tamer of horses. Let them say I lived in the time of Achilles." - Odysseus

No. His name was Achilles before he was dipped in the Euphrates River. The achilles part of the heel was named after him because of the story.

According to the book I read, the war at Troy lasted 10 years.
And for another 10 years Odysseus tried to return home. I really like the series about his adventures (1997)

A war about love. When Aphrodite gives Paris her enchanted belt, which made the wearer the most attractive being on earth and Paris "uses it to get Helen fall in love with him" (as a reward for Paris proclaiming her the most beautiful goddess over Athena and Hera), the power of love was unleashed. ALL aspects of love. Se*ual love. Love as in caring for somebody or smth. Love craze. Jealousy. ... You begin to realize that a war for love is not that unrealistic.
Athena, full knowing of the oath which every greek King swore when Menelaos and Helen were married took (to protect the sanctity of their marriage and to defend her), and many other gods used the war as a pretext to "settle some scores". Which is why so many people in the Iliad and Odyssey end up dying or with fates even worse.

If you'd like to learn more about greek mythology, which is basically the foundation for EVERY trope, every theme of ANY Hollywood movie, there's plenty of material here on YT.

The Legend says that the sword of Troy was given to Eneas.. and the troyans fled and founded another city... in the italian peninsula. That city was later known as Rome.... so that´s a hell of a sequel my friend 😉

Obviously, you guys are young & don't know this Greek story, The Illiad, written by the poet Homer but you're not even following the storry very well yet. I guess you'll figure it out as the movie progresses. There's a famous quote from the story: "Helen, the face that launched a thousand ships". Achilles, mother was the Goddess, Thetis who dipped him as a child into the River Styx to make him immortal, but held him by the heel, leaving that spot untouched by the protective waters. This is why we say that a person's weakness is their 'Achilles Heel". The war actually lasted 10 years. The story of King Odysseus also known as Ulysses took another 10 years to return home who battles giants & witches before arriving to save his Wife/Queen from being forced to remarry. That epic story should have been the sequel by this same director & actor.
