The Dutch depend on the maintenance of dykes, canals and other water works for their lives. Maintenance is therefore an essential part of civil engineering in the Netherlands.

In the Netherlands road safety starts with education. From early on in life Dutch children are educated on how to behave on the road. That's why you see children as young as 4 years bicycle.

Key is that the Dutch manual is guidelines, not a set of prescriptions. This fits the generally pragmatic culture to do what is right, not what the rulebook says.

Cobblestone is used because it generates more noise when driving over it, giving the illusion of speed which will subconsciously make you slow down.
Same goes for the markings on the speedbumps etc.

When you discuss a woonerf, none of the footage is of a woonerf 🙃

At the Dutch primary school I had to do a theory and practical cycling exam. The practical exam consists of a bike ride of about 5 kilometers through the city, with an inspector taking notes every few hundred meters. We also went to a traffic park with school, where the class drives in small cars with real traffic signs, traffic lights and traffic squares. It was a lot of fun.

In Dutch traffic behaviour you have to take into account that a motorist is legally liable for at least half of the damage in a collision and that he is guilty unless proven otherwise. This leads to caution. At zebra crossings the road user is obliged to give way to the pedestrian who wants to cross - and this is practically always done.
As far as road maintenance is concerned it is important that the road manager (municipality, province, government) is liable for poor maintenance: a hole in the road surface with damage to the road user costs the road manager money.
The entire road infrastructure was set in motion by the "stop the murder of children" actions in the seventies. The oil crisis of 1973 - the oil producing countries of OPEC refused to supply oil to the Netherlands because of the Dutch support for Israel - also led to reconsideration and the promotion of bicycle use. So it did not all happen suddenly but was realised, sometimes with fits and starts.

3:25 if they are not predictable, then there are signs or in some cases mirrors to help the driver see in the corner
