It’s not limited to Sci-Fi. If you made a complete history of American movies that were remakes of much better French ones, it would be quite a book.

I love Alphaville . Thanks for helping me find Le Dernier Combat which I saw once 30 years ago and have wanted to see as an adult.

I've watched Masters of Time so many times and still have the dvd. It's a hugely underrated film. Alphaville is a great film as well. Fantastic Planet (planet sauvage) is bizarre but brilliant.

Les Maîtres du temps (1982) holds a very specific and nostalgic place in the landscape of film distribution in Estonia—at least for science fiction fans. As a co-production involving the West (France and West Germany), socialist Hungary (the legendary Pannónia studio), and Switzerland, it was a rare sci-fi film that managed to secure a release in the Soviet Union—and thus in the Estonian SSR. It achieved cult status, serving for many as one of the most vivid and peculiar cinema experiences of their childhood.

Alphaville is my number 1 all time favorite science fiction film. I have my own list of my favorite 200 SF movies, and Alphaville beats all of them. It's also one of my 10 favorite movies overall. I did NOT know about the voice of Alpha 60! Thanks for that bit of fascinating backstory. I love it! Science fiction fans are not unaware of it. I saw it originally when it played 1st run in Manhattan, but that was a dubbed print. My research shows that all of the prints distributed to the US for its 1st run were dubbed. This was also the case with The Tenth Victim, which I also saw 1st run with a dubbed print, and I didn't see it in Italian until the DVD came out in the 2000s. I rank the Italian version 26/200. However, I saw Alphaville in French at a science fiction Worldcon in the late 1970s. I've seen it a few time subtitled at rep theaters, including the Walter Reade at Lincoln Center. Of course, I own the DVD.
I rank Immortel, ad vitam 96/200. I am quite familiar with Bilal's bandes dessinées, having read Métal Hurlant even before Heavy Metal came out in the US. I rank Le Dernier Combat 103/200. Je t'aime, je t'aime is WAY up there at 6/200. Resnais is my 3rd favorite director. I have seen every one of his theatrical features, and quite a few of his short films. Le prix du danger has been on my TBW list forever, but no luck. I dislike The Running Man (1987) which is not on my favorites list. I have not seen the Edgar Wright, but I am predisposed to like him because of The Sparks Brothers. Renaissance looks promising. I had not heard of it, but I just put it on my TBW list. I will only watch the French language version, though. I adore Les Revenants, both the film and the French TV series, but the movie isn't on my 200 list because I consider it supernatural/fantasy rather than SF. I rank La Planète Sauvage 31/200. I rank La Jetée 14/200. I also like 12 Monkeys, although I usually avoid remakes. I rank it 66/200. I even like the TV series. Season 1 basically redid the movie, but then they found interesting places to take it. And how could I not enjoy something with the wonderful Tom Noonan in it?
Please stop with the fake film scratches. They're repetitious and obviously fake.

Great list! The soundtrack to "La planète sauvage" became sought-after sample material for countless hip-hop beats. Props and thanks for your work!

Merci infiniment pour avoir mis en avant tout ces films, certe réalisés avec des moyens plus modestes mais qui n'en demeurent pas moins des réussites, voir des chefs d'oeuvres pour certains.
