Lovely. We have a saying in India " India moves on its railways". To truly experience it, take a long distance AC 1st class or 2nd class on ur trips here.....

Great trip. It's great you try this train, and for the carriage, at least they have fan room for hot season and heater for cold season, so when the train need a longer stop, the temperature will stay at comfortable level. Ah yes, something i really appreciate about this trip is the availability of replacemeny locomotive, even though the duty when not doing replacment is just shunting at station.

Since I am not a fan of "couchette" design sleeping accommodations, a cabin like yours with just the two of you would be quite fine. I do enjoy the open window option but...when not moving in summer in a place like Kazakhstan, I can't imagine the uncomfortable heat. Dated, indeed! Disappointed that there isn't any food service for a full day (+) of travel. Thanks for the heads-up on food options. I, too, have travelled on Soviet-era trains and washroom facilities and upkeep are always an adventure, not for the faint of heart. Beautiful expansive landscapes to enjoy. Mind you, sections of Kazakhstan underwent a monstrous 450+ nuclear tests in the Cold War era - complete with many "dead zones." I really enjoyed today's video. A great way to see that part of the world. You said it..."an adventure." Thanks for posting the video!
