What is your experience with neurodivergence and medication?

Both Ren AND Chris Webby deal with this subject regularly. The lyrics are more autobiographical than creative so they are most definitely speaking out of experience. Both super talented artists that represent this community.

Your reaction to this song was quite helpful! You had an interesting perspective along with some a couple of new thoughts that I hadn't heard from others that reacted to this song! Thank you!

Not only does Ren put out great mental health content, but he also doesn’t put channels ah risk since he’s pro reactor. It’s a win-win!

I'm in my 50s and take Adderall for ADHD. I was diagnosed as ADD in my late 20s, but they did away with that label years ago and stuck us all into ADHD. So now my "official" diagnosis is ADHD without the Hyperactivity component. Adderall works for me and it helps keep me focused at work. My son, however, is truly ADHD and they put him on Concerta when he was 5. He took one pill and I literally saw his eyes glass over and he sat motionless on the couch. So I took the meds back and told them to keep them for themselves. He's been unmedicated since (he turns 30 this year) and we both learned how to "deal with it" by finding different ways to get the energy out (baseball, football, video games, walks in the woods, etc.)

Undiagnosed dyslexia with ADHD here and a former teacher. My first day teaching my own classes had me going through anxiety attacks. Then my roommate pointed out that I know more than they do about the subjects. That helped a lot! One student asked me what previous experience I had teaching. Luckily, my professor had me take over her class for experience. So, I could honestly tell them I had taught at the university. It was in that group of kids that I had a severely dyslexic student. I taught her two years of Latin. When they pulled her to have her go to a special school just for dyslexia, the school thought it was b.s. that she had 2 years of Latin and weren't going to give her credit for it. (We color coded everything after school together.) Before the year was done at her new school, she proved them wrong. They gave her the credit.
I've dealt with all sorts of neurodivergent kids. It's just another day in the office for a teacher. One of my Latin kids was told he couldn't learn Latin (multiple learning disabilities). He got a gold medal on the National Latin Exam. I was so proud of him! I knew he could do it!
Just because you have a learning disability does not mean you're dumb. Many have high IQs, higher than the kids in the "normal" classes. I let them know that. If you want to learn something badly enough, you will do what I did. I studied 3xs harder than anyone in my classes. I came up with all sorts of ways to memorize. Color coded grammatical endings and verb endings. I busted my butt to get a Latin degree. I fought with the department of education, so I could get the courses I needed to become certified to teach Latin. I jumped every hoop, no matter how tough because Latin is one of the best languages to learn! It's tough but well worth it!!!
One of my history kids caught a date mistake on the board. (I had stared at it and knew it was wrong but couldn't figure out which numbers I had switched.) I let the class know I'm dyslexic. That student didn't believe me. So, she wrote her homework backwards. I had no problem grading it (essay, short answer and multiple choice). I handed it back to her without pausing and she yelled out, "She really is dyslexic!" Lol! It was the parents who claimed I was ADHD by watching me teach. Lol! I'm part of the squirrel clan! And I'm proud of that! I even have Scottish ancestors from a county with squirrels on their emblem! Ha!
Oh, my classes were always the loudest and filled with laughter. I had a principal ask me to calm it down. Hey, we had fun learning!

I think Ren is a really great educator. He's made me think about money/greed, murder/suicide, domestic/generational violence, health care failures/long term sickness, and now Neurodivergence and our education systems🤔........Lol this makes me sound as if I have walked through my life totally oblivious to my surroundings 😂 But Ren has snuck all these ideas into my head by wrapping them all up in amazing music, incredible singing/rapping, lyrics that any poet would be proud of, and guitar solos that make me melt. And now I'm walking round supermarkets singing 'Whoa-oh-oh what makes a person, Whoa -oh-oh Neurodivergent' 😂 Thanks for your thoughts.....I enjoyed watching with you x

I love this song being an anthem for anyone who feels like a misfit, but especially those who identify as neurodivergent! My mom is a sped teacher, and I have several family members with ASD or ADHD. As always Ren (and Webby) helping marginalized people feel seen.
