Charley Pride was not the first black country singer. He was the first black country superstar. There were many black country singers before him that were ignored and did not garner national recognition, one of them was the late Korean War Veteran, McDonald Craig from Linden, Tennessee.

Ray Charles sang country like crazy, and never seemed to care if it's black music or white music. Music has no barriers, it's a feeling

If you don't love and respect some Charley Pride.. I don't want to know you... I saw him at 5 yrs old at the State Fair 1972 and all I remember is him singing Kiss and Angel Good Morning in a white suit and my Grandmother saying she couldn't believe he was black but she loved him.  RIP Charley.

I am still a fan of his. He was introduced once as the original man in black.

Charley Pride was the first concert I went to paying with money I had earned. It was a great concert. It was in Austin, TX in the 1970s. His son even came on stage and sang one song. I still have a collection of vinyl albums today!
