Charlie Pride is worthy of more respect than most Country Singers.
His humility and his uncommon decency as a human being shines
like the sun. In an industry that was dominated by white folk, (many
of whom hated black people), Charlie just kept smiling and singing
until he actually won them all over. Bravo! Charlie Pride! Pioneer indeed.

His music had NOTHING TO DO with his SKIN COLOR. SHAME, SHAME, SHAME on those who focus on his skin pigmentation. Mr. Charley was a HUMAN BEING. THANK YOU, GOD, FOR HIM.

I got to meet him and his wife when I was about 9 years old. We're in Dallas at the wrestling match and they were sitting a few seats over from us. Very nice people and Charlie Pride definitely deserved this award.

I met Charley when he came to my church to judge a beard contest. (Danny a member of my church played in his band.) Charley was so friendly and it is easy to see why he was so popular. We all miss him but his music lives on. The one Jimmie Allen album has a trio with both he and Darius Rucker--all three black country artists. So he opened up a field of music for all. Music is a gift from God to be shared. Music is a gift from the writer and performer for the world. Music does not belong to anyone. Yes the writer gets royalties but it becomes a shared experience to all. No one should ever say a certain music belongs to anyone. It is the gift that keeps on giving every time it is performed or played on a recording
