The closing of this blast furnace made national news several times back in 2012. The workers fought for months. Many people worked in those blast furnaces in the Fensch valley (you can listen to the song "Fensch Vallée" by Bernard Lavilliers), both my grandfathers worked in similar blast furnaces nearby (not this one). I believe the crisis began in the 70s. My grandfathers fought against the closing of their blast furnace, went to Paris to protest against it, but it shut down in the late 80s. They had unemployment benefits for 10 years until they reached retirement. One of my grandfathers still avoid taking a certain road that is close to his old workplace, because it breaks his heart to see that nothing is there anymore. My grandfathers worked together and that's how my father and mother met.

Thank you so much for this video ! For those who are interested, there is the "Parc du haut-fourneau U4" at Uckange nearby, it's a park that you can safely visit. Great for kids too.

The best part is always when these guys managed to find a place that's on the verge of just becoming an empty flat plane of nothing, and then they get in there and document it for all of us so we have something to remember it by when it's gone, there's many places that we would have never seen had these guys not come in and found them before they were demolished, and end up preserving them at least digitally so people like us can appreciate them for years to come ❤

I'm 72 and I can't tell you how much I loved this video. It was fascinating although you were making me nervous climbing over some of the barricades. Great work!!!!

To think of the complexity, work and time it takes to build something like this and all the people who have to learn how to operate all this and many probably spent their whole lives working here and one day they just walk away from all of it, for the most part it's how cities begin and end, it's a lot to think about and take in.

Thank You to all the people that worked in that dirty place so we could have things. Your labor was priceless.

The older you are the more interested you get looking at stuff like this, pondering what kind of challenges people before us faced to accomplish so many huge feats… when everyday life was harder and men were actually men. What an awesome video to watch!
