I was in Tokyo and picked up a Vanquish for about than $300 and paired it with an Expride rod at $140. My lightest setup and I love it! If you're in Japan, definitely take advantage of the strong USD.

Re the Vanquish model ID, the C denotes compact (same frame size as 2500), the S denotes shallow spool.

Like a lot of tangible things, some people purchase items for "prestige and admiration" . They will defend their purchase even though they feel it might not have been worth it but the price paid for the feeling of "prestige and admiration" was definitely worth it.

I have this Calcutta Conquest on backorder for inshore saltwater use. Quite robust and appropriate for saltwater. Low, medium, high nomenclature is light years better than the previous cryptic names. It has gotten great reviews by superb saltwater users. I have the the new Vanquish 2500SHGC 5.8:1. It is superb. Kudos to Shimano. Shimano really needs a G Loomis NRX+ hard plastic jerkbait rod.

Vanquish is a great reel. Have a number of them purchased from Japan from the 2000 to the 5000.
