Have you been on the receiving end of a gotcha recently?

One time I told my opponent that I would deepstrike my deathmarks wholly within his deployment zone, he said “alright”, I placed them all within the boundary line and said again, ok, this guys are wholly within your deployment zone so that they can score me recover assets and behind enemy lines, and he just nodded, the thing is I did not noticed that the plastic line was slightly skewed and when i declared the action during the shooting phase he just told me “you can’t, you are not wholly within, see how that line is not as straight as the one form your deployment, it must have moved during previous turns” not even half the base of one model was outside the correct boundry line. The worst part was that during the first round he moved a very important unit and he placed part of it inside a terrain footprint by mistake and when it was my turn I noticed and said to him that because of that my doomsday ark can see it and will most likely kill it, I told him that I knew what his intent was, because he was looking at lines of sight before placing it there, so I allowed him to move his unit back just a tinny bit so that it could be behind the footprint. At that moment I really thought that we would have a really chill and fun match, but it quickly became my worst match ever with even more ruling nightmares and gotcha moments. But I won and it felt sooo good.

Orks using Gen Z slang was definitely not on my 2026 bingo card

I recommend agreeing with your opponent before the game begins as to whether you're going to remind each other of your gotchas, or gotcha each other into oblivion.

THANK YOU for this video. As a newer player, I have been subject to multiple gotchas and nothing saps the joy out of the game faster than when you play with intent and then folks just want to win by any means.

Great video! Playing by intent is the only way!
Always!

And I like it if my opponent helps me and remembers my rules better than me and coaches me... then I can score higher than usual!
(Still never win).

I had an opponent use a surge move, stating that he was going to surge onto an objective and claim it out from under me. I believed him and triggered the surge move. When I moved another unit within easy charge range of the unit he just surged out of the way, he asked for a takeback.
I told him no, as surge moves are sequenced, and if he didn't surge move at the exact time he did, he wouldn't have been able to.
Opponent called a TO to say that I had played a "gotcha" on him, the TO agreed with me and said that the normal movement of any model isn't a "gotcha"

Thanks for the video Damien! I feel like this was just an explanation of exactly how I try to play, feels nice to see this way of playing being shown from content creators. Warhammer is more fun when you are playing it WITH your opponent. This is not Magic, info should be open! You want to win from strategy, not gotchas that only work 1 time and sour a game!

One time I accidently re rolled hit rolls for my beast snagga boyz against infantry (they can only do it against monsters and vehicles) and I didn't notice until my wound roll. I remembered how many I re rolled and told him to remove that many dice from his saving rolls.
