  As someone who suffers with this, but hasn't gotten to the point where it's absolutely disgusting you cannot get help. So I just got stubborn with myself and said enter a room grab the first thing on the left. Make your way around the room. Be cut throat if it's an object that wasn't yours, but was a parents, for example, or maybe even a great grandparent that you never even met, but you feel some kind of guilt getting rid of this thing. Take a picture of it. A book of memories takes up far less space than the actual objects. I got my house done by my self in four years. Mind you I always kept places like my kitchen in my bathroom clean. But putting clothes away or having too many clothes was a major issue and I cut myself off from going to thrift stores unless I actually needed something. And if they didn't have that thing, I couldn't get anything else and if they did have that thing, and I limited myself to only candles for things that would not last. It's improved my life immensely.

  I’m a border line hoarder it started 20 years ago when I got ill and couldn’t go out. But I am tackling it with a vengeance this year, wish me luck 😊

  I recently took a whole year to declutter and while it was exhausting, all of it was washed and packed and labelled for donation. 12 huge shopping carts piled to the ceiling and it was hard but I did it. The fact that the shopping carts stayed with me in a back room meant I could stil retrieve anything if I had pangs, but at the end of 12 months, only a few items were retrieved off the carts re: items I later decided I wanted to keep. This in addition to donating 2500 books. My rule was every day minimum one item had to go on the carts. That helped a lot.

  Only seen Jasmin before on Place in the Sun, she seems lovely, empathetic and patient. Poor Jeff, its so sad how childhood trauma can cause such issues after so long. The longer you live and meet people the more this becomes more apparent. I hope he manages to get over the hoarding.

  I envision a charity dedicated exclusively to supporting elderly individuals struggling with hoarding. The goal would be to help them thoughtfully curate their belongings—perhaps keeping 100 cherished items—while ensuring the rest of their goods in good condition are donated to those in need through a free community shop. By providing professional cleaning and furnishing them with essential new pieces, we could offer these seniors a dignified, fresh start in a safe and peaceful home.

  Some of these episodes have just brought me to tears. I’ve tried to help relatives in the same condition and it’s HARD.

  As a child, his mother throwing out treasured toys because paint was chipped I think has something to do with it. The lack of control over these toys that gave him pleasure suddenly not being there. Jeff with his scientific mind began to look at it rationally once they intervened.
