Bastion going: "Oh no, Chazz waterlogged my deck? Oh my. Anyways..."

And opening his jacket to show a vest with SIX EXTRA DECKS is still unmatched aura.

Only Jesse-Yubel comes to mind as another duelist in GX going "Hold up, let me just change to my side deck to style on you".

One of the side characters with the best potential made into a complete joke character.

Fun fact, jaden wasn't the first one to use the mirage of nightmare + emergency provisions combo. Yugi's grandpa did it against Joey during the kc championship

Duels where both characters could've won earlier always make the most entertaning analysis

Real shame for what happened to Bastion, I thought he was pretty likeable

Minor point, but during the duel with Jaden technically speaking Jaden could have waited a little longer to use Emergency provisions- wait until Bastion attacks with Water Dragon and Hiyozanru, and then activate it and Hero Signal together. By conventional rules at the time he would have gotten the benefits of both effects and netted an extra 1000. Seeing as he wins it wouldn't have been a huge change, but technically it would have helped him out a bit more to be on the safe side

Fun fact, both in the anime and in a majority of all the video games that feature all the plots from GX, literally most if not all the non plot important NPC's in Obelisk Blue all run the same archetype right down to the exact same cards. For some reason, and dont ask me why, almost every single Obelisk Blue student with the exception of Chazz, Zane, Alexis, and Atticus runs a warrior themed deck themed around equip spells and using Marauding Captain as their opening card at the start of every duel. I think whats symbolic about this is when you think of someone who primarily runs a Warrior deck, you'd think of Joey whereas if you're in Obelisk Blue you'd think you'd want to run a dragon themed deck just like Kaiba and even Chazz sort of lumps into this mindset at the beginning since he runs a Cthonian Deck and then moves on to like a combination of different archetypes from Lv Dragons to XYZ cards to Ojamas before finally settling with a weird fusion combination of Ojamas and XYZ's. Even during the 1 time we go to North Academy, a place we literally never see or here from ever again, all the students who go there actively follow the same stupid belief system the Obelisk Blue students do where everyone has the same decks and same cards. I think this was done intentionally to overtime show Chazz how he's being too narrow minded relying on only a select amount of monsters which is why he starts comfortably running Ojamas because their wacky effects are annoying to deal with. Its also why Sartortius has Chazz run a light themed deck for a bit because he insisted it was literally idiot proof and the only way he could realistically lose with that deck is if he was trying to intentionally lose.

As for Bastion however he went thru the opposite problem. Something about losing to Jaden completely broke his concentration skills since he had a solid deck themed around elemental monsters and he threw that deck in the garbage for Magnet Warriors and it was also coincidentally when Bastion started using Magnet monsters his W/L record became the worst and it was only when he went back to using his actual good cards things started looking up for him but at that moment he wasnt even in the squad anymore since the writers hated Bastion.

It still bugs me to this day that the GX intro showed Bastion with his Water Dragon and a Fire Dragon, but he never uses the Fire Dragon.

Never forget that a guy stopped a missing student news report because bastion and jaden had a good duel

The funny thing I always find with Bastion’s strategy at stopping Jaden from fusion summoning with Curse Seal of the Forbidden Spell, is that it’s literally just a temporary setback for Jaden. At this point in the series Jaden still has another way of fusion summoning in the form of Fusion Gate.
