  Some face powders from Roman times up through the Renaissance/ Ming Dynasty era were made with powdered lead to make it very white. Obviously wearing its allows the lead poison to seep into a person, slowly killing them. The symptoms mentioned are those often seen in poisoned victims. The entire show is one long medical murder/conspiracy mystery.

  Maomao could not really do anything without jinshi there. Rear palace manager outranks all but the high concubines in the rear palace. <br>Maomao was lowest rank in the room being a hostile lady in waiting alone.<br>Since jinshi did not interrupt or disapprove of maomao&apos;s physical discipline, &nbsp;he was giving tacit approval.

  Jinshi&apos;s presence and the subsequent revelation of the powder are the only thing keeping Maomao&apos;s head on her neck. slapping a lady-in-waiting from a prestigious family would have had her beheaded.

  Maomao is 17 years old. Jinshi is known to be 24 years old. &nbsp;And it gets complicated, if you don&apos;t pay attention to the details. That&apos;s all I will say without spoiling it.

  Interesting fact: LADY LIHUA is voiced by the same voice actor as MIKASA ACKERMANN from attack on titan.<br><br>LADY GYOKUYO and her daugher is the same voice as Frieren<br><br>Maomao is the same voice actor as Lucy from Cyberpunk Edgerunner<br><br>Gaoshun is same voice actor as Sound Hashira Tengen from Demon Slayer<br><br>so coincidentally, you guys have heard their acting for some time now.

  Mao Mao takes the Crystal Pavilion ladies&apos; treatment of her on the chin up until a certain point because she knew what she was likely getting herself into, what with her being part of Lady Gyokuyou&apos;s entourage, and sees no point in trying to argue with them. It&apos;s only when she works out that they&apos;ve still been applying the lead powder to Lady Lihua&apos;s face that she starts throwing hands; the fact that they clearly haven&apos;t the faintest idea of how to go about taking care of a sick person was already bad enough - they keep the windows closed so she can&apos;t get fresh air, they don&apos;t wipe her down or change her sheets, they attempt to feed her with food that is far too rich for her weakened stomach - but they willfully ignored a palace-wide ban on the lead powder that killed the crown prince, and had they not continuously thwarted Mao Mao, she would have worked out the problem a lot sooner and Lady Lihua&apos;s condition wouldn&apos;t have gotten this bad. And I&apos;m guessing she couldn&apos;t exactly play the &quot;Mission From the Emperor&quot; card because those ladies-in-waiting would have no doubt assumed she was lying.
