Back in the early 80s there was a hurricane passing about 350 miles east of the island I was living on in Samoa. And a few of us drove down to a point to watch the waves break. Boom boom boom very cool. Until we saw a wave start to build and it just kept building and building. We ran and fortunately we were able to get far enough away that when it did break the water that hit us was about 4 foot deep. It took us forward a little bit but we were able to keep our feet and not be dragged back out to sea. The next day that point was mostly gone along with half of the road. Never again will I go wave watching anywhere close to the break.
