It wasn't just the black people he stood up for. When a Hispanic friend of his named Mario a busboy, was fired from the Hilton International for no reason, Elvis denounced his firing from the stage and refused to play that night. The Colonel went out of his mind. Like James Brown said, Elvis just liked people.

I don't know if this incident is true but I do know that Whitney Houston's mother used to say that Elvis wouldn't stay at a hotel where his black back up singers weren't allowed to stay. She was one of the singers.
