  Once again - we are learning SO MUCH! As shown in the video, we did not know that Abida Parveen & Rahat Fateh Ali Khan were Pakastani until after recording this reaction. We chose this piece because it was highly recommended by many in the comments of the other Indian artists we reacted to and made the mistake of initially presuming these were Indian artists appearing on the Coke Studio Pakistan program, performing a song with Hindistani roots. Regardless, we are grateful to all of you who have taken the time to explain some of the cultural and musical history both uniting and differentiating their musical styles. More to come :)

  I'm a Polish metal head. Once I found Hadiqa Kiani, Quratulain Balouch and CS Pakistan, I can't stop listening to this music. By far Pakistani sufi music is the best music I have ever heard, and trust me I heard a lot. Love from Poland ❤

  Fun Fact: Many people don't know that this was rehearsal but not just any rehearsal; it was a live recording. This piece was their first time singing together and there were no retakes, it was intended to be the final, televised performance.

  I'm a Western gal (American) and husband is Pakistani (Pashtun). I've spent the last 5 years exploring Pakistani, Pashtun and Indian music and have fallen in love with all of it over and over again. I was privileged to be able to spend quite a bit of time in Pakistan and fall in love with the culture, music and the people. Hope you guys explore some of the beautiful Pashtun artists as well.   Very happy that you’re going down this beautiful rabbit hole of Desi/south asian music. This is actually Pakistan Coke studio. There s also India s coke studio , the concept in both being that everyone sings and plays live together in the same take, and that we use our folk or classical music heritage with elements of fusion, western influences and some rock. Pakistan Coke Studio seems to have nailed it the best and as Indians, we really respect Pakistan s Coke studio! The man here- Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is a Pakistani legend who has sung many many songs for the Indian music industry. The lady, Abida Parveen is also a legend who usually sings spiritual songs like this one.<br>This song is a famous poem written a few centuries ago by a sufi man in north India. These lyrics and a version of this song is actually an age old folk song in north india. Such songs are part of a movement and a culture that emerged between 15-17 th century called Sufi movement for Islam, much like the Bhakti movement of Hinduism, which believes in personal devotion to god. where people believed in finding god by being close to god through the heart, like you would a beloved or a close friend. The focus is less on orthodox rituals and more on diversity, equality of all people, humility and surrendering to God. Bhakti and sufi saints, poets and artists believed that people didnt need to know scriptures and rules to be close to God. All they needed was a pure heart, humility and absolute devotion and honesty. Often, in these songs, the lyrics can sound like someone talking informally to a beloved or a close friend but actually, it s speaking to God, which is why there is a feeling of calling out or invocation in the high pitch projected voices :)

  Abida parveen belongs to the Pantheon of sufi artists. She&apos;s the pride of Pakistan and this is for Coke Studio Pakistan

  The male singer here is Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. He is the succesor of his uncle USTAD NUSRAT FATEH ALI KHAN. I used bold letters out of respect here btw. He was one of the greatest vocalists alive. He and his Qawwali party, performed in 80s and 90s all over the world in the US,UK,Europe, Japan etc. You should read about him .
