What you wear as a tourist is not entirely unimportant in some locations, but it matters a lot less than being loud in public places, being rude to staff, being pretentious, etc etc

As a Dutch person, I never go to a restaurant in sportswear or sloppy clothes. That is because eating out in the Netherlands is something special. Most people eat at home every day. So when they go to a restaurant, it is something special and more of a luxury activity. That is why people like to dress a bit smarter when they go to a restaurant.

There’s no rule that says you have to <b>hide</b> the fact that you’re a tourist from another part of the world, but there is something to the concept of not wearing a bright neon spandex tanktop and your Ohio State crocs when you’re exploring the Louvre.
