One of my favorite interactions I saw is in the room where you cut signery from the ceiling. He tells you to stand on ralsei because “it’s a boy’s treat for a guy like him.” If you reach him without standing on ralsei, ralsei says “well they didn’t.” and signery says “Goodbye…” and explodes.

The "default" save for Chapter 5 assumes you did basically nothing additional, including Ralsei's room discovery. You can then go discover the room in Chapter 5. It's a multichapter room decorating mini-minigame going on in the background.

I think the enormous quantity of unique dialogues is meant to try to emulate an endless amount of friendly chatter that friends would have while having a generally great time. It does make them feel more alive.
