Haha - I happened to be talking to our 26 year old son about why it didn’t matter if you started with a Roth or Traditional IRA if you believed your tax rates would be the same going in as when taking the money out. That the decision was one of tax rate arbitrage. He didn’t see it intuitively… and here you demonstrated exactly the question and cleanly so!

How can you not respect a guy who goes on another channel for an interview… then reads the comments… and comes back to address the objections! Kudos to Ed, and to Erin to bringing him back, with nice graphics.

I just spent the last 5 years making Roth conversions. Now that I’m done I never have to worry about RMD’s, IRMAA, widow’s tax trap and the 10 year rule for our children.

Omg I love him. Such a traditional throwback to when more people were dedicated and excited about TEACHING, and TRUTH, and HELPING OTHERS vs pushing some product, or using hype for engagement. Of course there used to be more opportunities to have a life with one job and didn't need extra hustles. You're great for celebrating this guy, and it shows what you're about too. Great stuff!

Erin, keep up your humility, it draws people in, especially when it is genuine😉 Also, your videos are just wonderful. Easy to understand, and your "team's" graphics are fantastic.

Really enjoyed this - both for the good discussion & advice and for the fact that one of my favorite financial youtubers is getting deserved recognition from some of the pillars in the financial education world.

I’ve been putting money into a Roth since 1998 almost every year. I traded stocks in it off and on and now at age 60 I have over a million dollars in my Roth IRA and it’s all tax free

I wish my CPA/tax advisor had given me the right answer in 1998. I opened a small Roth on my own, then asked about where my money should go. I was told that my taxes would be so much lower in retirement than they were now, that I should take the tax break and use a traditional. That was not a totally incorrect statement as tax brackets were higher, but I sure wish that I'd put it all in a Roth. Yes, I've converted a reasonable amount...but again wish I'd done it up front! I told my son-in-law that if his new job offered a Roth option, that's the right choice. Ignore them if they tell him that his taxes this year will be higher.

Thanks for the video. I have 40% traditional, 40% roth. and 20% brokerage. I won't be doing a roth conversion because I am getting aca subsidies til 65 while I draw from the brokerage and roth. If I convert, the income will erase the subsidy. Maybe between 65 and 75, but I'm already planning on drawing from the traditional in those years. I'm so glad I I did all three accounts. Thank you 20 year ago me, lol.
