They only switch to green for a particular direction if there&apos;s actually a vehicle (or several) waiting to cross the junction.<br><br>To do this, there&apos;s a sort of big metal detector built into (or just beneath) the road surface. This detector tells the computer if there is traffic waiting to proceed. The computer then includes this direction in the sequence of the lights.<br><br>What the idiot in the truck had done was to stop so far forward of the white line that he was out of reach of the detector. Thus, if there was no traffic behind him, he&apos;d never get the green light.

Johnson owned a German-made amphibious car....his favorite thing to do with it was to take guests on a drive, and then drive down a hill towards a lake while saying the brakes stopped working without telling the guests the car was amphibious......most guests bailed or held on for dear life while the car plowed into the lake and started floating..... in fact, his Secret Service members would even sometimes play along with the prank, he would radio his head agent and ask if the brakes were fixed and the agent would say they weren&apos;t

  Man, after the tragedies that have happened on duck boats I would not get on that riverbus. Even with duck boats being largely open above the seats they still take people under. Imagine trying to get out of a fully enclosed sinking bus. I dunno, I guess boats are often mostly fully enclosed too but it feels different to me when it&apos;s a bus, you know?
