  30 years off grid here. The focus should not be on the stove. The house is the focus. Thermal mass is within the walls of the house. That eliminates the need for a large mass wood stove. A decent wood stove is good enough, but trying to make it run for the night by damping down air feed just creates creosote and reduces efficiency. If your house loses more than 3 degrees Celcius through the night without a heat source you need to add insulation and thermal storage. Concrete or water is thermal storage. Insulation is the cheapest fix plus air sealing. The thermal mass allows a fairly hot fire not to overheat the house...and you don't need soapstone, low temperature thermal mass is easy.

  I’ve had a Tulikivi TTU-2700 for 22 years and love it. In the dead of winter in Michigan it radiates heat like you’re sitting in the sun even though the fire went out hours ago. And I can bake a pizza or a loaf of bread in the bake oven on top.

  You missed an excellent option.  The Liberator Rocket Heater made in Bourbon Missouri.  I've been running one for 2 years now and it is amazing.  I can get 26 hours off one bag of wood pellets and the ash yield is not enough to fill my hands when I cup my palms together.  I can clean it while it is still running, add another 40 pound bag of pellets and be good for another 16 to 26 hours, depending on  how much air I give it, in less than 2 minutes.  It does not require electricity to run.  It heats our entire 1600 sq foot home by running a small fan to circulate the warm air to the back two bedrooms.  I can remove the pellet adapter and have it running on dead tree limbs in around 5 minutes.  It is so efficient that after it has been running an hour you can touch the double wall stove pipe anywhere between the stove and the ceiling without getting burned.  There may be something better than this somewhere but it meets my needs so well that I"m not interested in trying anything else.

  I'm going to hook up cold climate mini splits and run them with solar panels, then the fire at night.

  I've been running a Blaze King Princess for years, I got 10 yrs. out of the original combust er. After years off grid I can say it is the best stove I've ever owned.

  This is handy, we're getting a prebuilt cabin and probably want a wood stove for it.

  TTU-2700 is currently being installed.  Fun to watch it grow every day this week.  Thought it would be a faster install, but guess it just takes time.  Effectively 2 days into install, at least 2 more to go.  They have 1/3 of the stove to assemble, the bench, then the fresh air intake and the chimney.  But in all fairness, had to design the house for it - I think it is 8k lbs.

  I have free firewood all around my home to last 5 lifetimes. No joke. And i use a cast iron wood burning stove with the chrome pieces on it built in Bangor, Maine in 1894. Im an old timer and enjoy history. They don't make timer like they used to. Those fays are in gone. You can brag about your new expensive B.S. that was learned from old style simple methods that were cost effective. I'll take those old style simple methods any time over anything new. No, they don't make things like they used to. And they got rid of all those methods so you buy their new expensive B.S.
